Being duped by love was the best thing to ever happen to this new literary superstar! With one of the most hilarious novels written this year under her belt, Patricia Wilson-Smith, the new comic face of romance and dating in America shows no signs of slowing down.

After being unceremoniously duped by a would be online suitor, this mother of one and talented musician sat down to write a tearful recount of her experience, and ended up penning one woman’s semi-fictional account of traversing the Atlanta dating scene—the laugh-out-loud tour de farce, “Duped By Love”.

Smith is a major new comic talent, and the self-proclaimed inventor of the “Art of Being Jilted”, also an upcoming novel. Her wicked sense of humor, especially on the subject of love and relationships, has made her one of the most sought-after personalities to hail from Atlanta, GA in a long time, and her advice column “Ask Pat” is poised for release in major print distribution this year!

Patricia honed her comedy skills around the dinner table of her family home in Kansas City, Missouri, where growing up the youngest of nine, learning to deliver quick one liners was like a rite of passage. She credits her mother with blessing her with her “a quick wit, intelligence genes, and bad luck with men”. As a college instructor/dating service addict who holds a Master’s of Science in Information Technology, she has quickly become regarded as a leading expert in online dating and the Internet.

When Bad Dates Make Big laughs, You’ve Got “Duped By Love”

DUPED BY LOVE, the hilariously funny first novel by Patricia Wilson-Smith about the antics of a thirty-something femme trying to find love in Atlanta, GA.

According to a recent study done by the research firm Sperling’s BestPlaces, Atlanta is the seventh worst city in the nation for dating. At a time when even the rich and successful are being duped (Jennifer Anniston, Terry McMillan), that distinction is pretty bad news for the scores of single available women in the city that frequent night spots, sign up for dating services, and scour the Internet looking to find love.

DUPED BY LOVE chronicles the shaky love life of Shelby Stewart, a single mother and divorcee, who lives and works in the ‘city too busy to hate’. The story follows her as she tries every dating trick in the book to find love, with truly comic results.

In Ms. Wilson-Smith’s own words,Shelby is a quick-witted and naïve thirty-something year old divorcee, who was left for another woman on her wedding anniversary by her obnoxious ex-husband. Now she’s trying to pick up the pieces in a city where the men-to-women ratio has been estimated at around 10 to 1. Women from every walk of life will be able to relate to what Shelby goes through.”  And as Shelby puts it, “I’m going to start an online dating service called ‘BigBlackGirlsThatArentNamedBeckyNeedLoveToo-Damnit.com.”

Wilson-Smith describes the dating scene for women in Atlanta as, ‘akin to looking for love at the Vatican’, and Duped By Love tells the story of Shelby’s various and sundry dating escapades, which are almost always amazingly funny. Egged on by her best friend, Lois, Shelby is easily talked into trying whatever dating trend comes along, including a truly inspired first encounter with a telephone dating service that will make you laugh so hard, you’ll want to read it again and again. Add to the list of characters a meddling mother-in-law, a nosy boss, and the book takes on a charm and wit that belies most first-time authors.

Ms. Wilson-Smith, a self-proclaimed ‘dupe-ee’, got the idea for the book after a particularly bad experience with a man she met online. Though Ms. Smith admits that writing DUPED BY LOVE, was a liberating experience, she says that actually being duped was anything but, and offers practical advice for singles looking for love “Date Responsibly”.
