ISBN: 0971513910 Synopsis Excerpt from Chapter One We spent most of Sunday packing our suticases for the trip to Virginia, where Aunt Darnella would be buried. Mama claimed she didn't have the strength to go to church, face the nosey folks that would be askin' bout Aunt Darnella or to overhear the gossip that was surely being spread. I knew it was 'cause her heart was broken. I heard her low mournful crying the night before--late in the night when she thought I was sleep.
