Hallema, a Miami native, discovered her writing talent as a senior in high school. Her undergraduate education prepared her for a career in law. She holds dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Criminology and Political Science from Florida State University. Upon graduating from FSU, she was awarded a full scholarship to Stetson University College of Law, where she continued to nurture her writer's voice. Following law school, Hallema returned to her roots in Miami.

She became a local favorite as a spoken word artist in South Florida by reciting her original and dramatic poetry. Building on her celebrity, Hallema founded Just us Girls, a book club for inner-city teenage girls. Community service has been a guiding principle throughout her life. As a member of the Dade County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, The Universal Truth Center and The Black Alumni Association of Florida State University she actively participates in projects that benefit the community.

Professionally, she has had an impressive career as a marketing consultant for two Fortune 10 companies. However, her desire to be a published author could not be extinguished. In July 2003, she resigned her position as a Financial Consultant to devote herself to her craft. She completed "Mass Deception" on August 15, 2003. Hallema believes that writing is her true purpose in life. She credits her strong faith in God, her partners in prayer and a supportive network of family and friends for giving her the strength to step out on faith and realize her dream.

Can I be the president of your fan club {SMILE}? I enjoyed every moment of the book. When I was reading it I know people thought I was probably crazy because I would laugh out loud. This book is no less than INCREDIBLE!..... I recently met the author while she was passing through the airport in Killeen, Texas!...She is a wonderful person.....Very down to earth.....and has a wonderful way of making you smile!....her personal traits are reflected in the way she took her time to develop the characters and bring to life a very different slant on issues of today. I thoroughly enjoyed reading each and every page! I must state that I am not an avid reader of novels.....and I became "hooked on phonics" as soon as I read this novel.
